Class #10 Followup: Collages and Manifesto

If you did not attend class on the 12th and did not form a new end-of-the-world society in groups, your task is to write a personal manifesto, either one that represents your beliefs, style, vision of the world, or one that is completely absurd and makes crazy incorrect statements about you .  (also get filled in on the final project by watching the in-class lecture below. You will join one of the existing groups WHEN you come to class next week

Since I have missed the class on 12th due to medical reasons, I will write a personal manifesto. I am a very conservative, little bit too uptight and very disciplined about my life as my friends and sisters say. Personally, I don't like drinking, smoking and partying. I am more of a homebody who enjoys staying home, watching movies and drinking coffee. For me, when I was in high school, I was appalled and shocked by how the teenagers act towards the teachers as well as their carefree nature when it comes to teenage pregnancy, drugs and cutting classes. This kind of made me ponder "Why are we so liberal? Are we misusing the liberty given to us by the government?" Is it me who is only thinking like this? I came from a very strict Tibetan school so my thoughts could be biased. However, when I asked my friends who were brought up in New York, they also agreed with me. I will create a personal manifesto on how the teenagers should learn how to behave without disrespecting others on school grounds.
  • No smoking and drugs on the campus. "Not cool"
  • No fighting in the hallway. "Dangerous"
  • No weapons allowed in the school. "Illegal"
  • No PDA in the hallway and the stairways. "Get a room"
  • No walking out of the classroom. "Disrespectful"
  • No Phones during class. "Inconsiderate"
  • No copying during the test. "Pathetic"

Class #9: Ai Weiwei and Interventions

For class next week, post a description of your intervention and documentation photos on your blog.

I made paper airplane from the magazines as I was reminded of my childhood. When I was little, I used make those airplanes and fly them from the top of my house but most of time, it landed at different places. I always run down to pick it up though sometimes its hard for me to reach certain places because its very high. Also I used to cry when it got stuck. For my public intervention, I put those airplane at different places that reminded me of when they would be stuck, when I fly them. I put these paper plane at random places and while i was taking pictures at the central park, some were staring at me thinking "what is she doing?" However, i took some outside my home.

Class 9 # SURVIVAL

1. Write a short paragraph response describing which of the lecture artist's interpretation of escaping, advancing, or repairing society you most agree with, and why.

I agree with the Michael Rakowitz paraSITE to repair the society on our prejudice and our ignorance on the homeless people. He made the plastic shelter on the budget of $5 using trash bags, Ziploc bags and clear waterproof packing tape. He also made windows on the shelters as he said, "homeless people don’t have privacy issues, but they do have security issues". Also, these shelter can be attached to the exterior vents of the heating system, air-conditioning system so that the shelter can be inflated by the system as well as provide the warmth in the shelter. I feel that what Rakowitz did is innovative and is a huge help for those homeless people that we saw sleeping on the streets, parks, train station shivering and looking helpless. Through his shelter, they only need to attach it to the ventilation which does not cost money at all. Instead, it helps the homeless to get shelter very cheaply and is clean. The public shelters we have are very overcrowded and unhygienic. I feel that Micheal Rakowitz parasite made a very innovative shelter that would be a tremendous help for the homeless people. It also gives the message to the government about the unhealthy conditions of the shelters that he has to create a shelter on his own.

Also she has displayed these artwork at different floors with the same expressions showing that like-minded individuals going through the same emotions with same expressions. The second "Gamut" artwork by Jeremy Mazzenga , shows different colors which can be translated into a different human emotions where different isolated colors were captured together in an image depicting the emotions of seduction, exhilaration and the actuality. The third artwork "Rainbow (IV)-what is ghosts" by James Case - Leal where all the seven colors of the rainbow on the black canvas depicts the emotions of spirituality, wisdom, vitality, passion and creative energy with each colors of the rainbow. However, the black canvas adamantly depicts the secretive unknown, a mystery where emotions are mostly expressed by the huge dark surroundings. Lastly, the fourth artwork "Ghost Dance"by Esteban Cabeza De Baca depicts an human unconsciousness blended with reality with the painting of moon through the spiderweb and unconventional humans. It also depicts the humans abstract emotions with the different shades of colors such as blue, white, black, and the little bit of purple. The different shades of color in these paintings depicts the emotions of the improbable and the transcendent we go through that we wanted to blend with our reality. In conclusion, all these artwork ties together to depict the different human expressions with different emotions of despair, sadness, exhilaration, passion, mystery and the uncertainty of human's emotions.
The audience for my exhibition is any ordinary person, who is willing to think, explore these artwork with their inquisitive mind. It is important to have their own interpretation on the different colors to human emotions and give a meaning to the colors through how they perceive it,  which is an individual's artistic conception and exposition.
